MARTI GRASS RESERVATION AGENT DEN Go to http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Marti_Grass.html for Marti's new memorial webpage. July/August 1978 THE AIR LINE EMPLOYEE In many ways the first three months of 1978 were the most important of the entire year and for the two following years, as well. This was when thousands of members at hundreds of locations on eight different air lines cast mail ballots for the officers who will lead their councils through March, 1981. The newly elected chairmen listed below comprise ALEA's top governing body, the Board of Directors, and they form the Master Executive Council on each air line. These MECs are now in the process of electing their own chairmen. Frontier Council Location Chairmen 44 Billings Al Martenson 45 Salt Lake City Larry Williams 46 Denver Mary Grass 47 Omaha Don Christensen 48 Phoenix Walt Hatfield 70 Denver Robt. Ogden 71 Oklahoma City Martin Gulikers 72 Wichita Ora Nestebroad 73 Denver Frank Monheiser 74 Fayetteville Jake Lamkins Email to Carolyn Boller I found some old ALEA clippings from 1978. One says Mary Grass is the new Council 46 Chairman. Another says you were re-elected? How did that come down? Are Mary Grass and Marti Grass the same? -Jake Lamkins (1/28/05) Yup...Mary was Marty's real name. -Carolyn Boller (1/28/05) I'm still curious. Were you elected in 1978 or was Mary? I thought you were on the MEC when I first came in 1978. Was Marti elected then you took over or what? Was she the Chairman before you? -Jake Lamkins (1/28/05) Marty was the first chairman I remember. I am not sure of the exact date she was elected but I know she helped negotiate the 1970 contract...which was the biggest pay increase we had ever had. I came after Marty. I honestly don't remember what date/year I started BUT, let me talk with Bill Monday as he was involved in all of these and was a good friend to Marty in later years. Marty died of a brain tumor in the late 70's or early 80's. I'll get back to you. -Carolyn Boller (1/30/05) The Social Security Death Index shows MARY GRASS Born 29 Apr 1943 Died Jun 1984 Age 41 At 80012 (Aurora, Arapahoe, CO) 80012 SSN issued in California -Jake Lamkins (1/30/05) To Carolyn: Does that look like Marty? Was she from California and 41 years old? Jake (1/30/05) She died in Colorado but I don't remember the date or age. I will check with some folks who do remember. -Carolyn Boller (1/30/05) Hi Bill & Barb, Hope this finds yall well. I'm trying to get some info together on Mary "Marty" Grass who was a res agent 20+ years ago and one time ALEA chairman. Carolyn Boller said you might remember her time of death and other helpful info such as when she began at FL, when she died, age at death, where she was from, etc. I want to make her an obituary webpage like those we already have at the website index below. Thanks for your help. -Jake Lamkins (2/6/05) Cant give you any reliable info. I have a few res folks networking to see if can find someone with any details. Will adv if and when. -Bill Monday (2/13/05) Here is the address of Marge DuBois. She is an early time res gal who seemed to know everything about everybody. Bet she can help if not, at least steer you in the right direction. -Bill Monday (2/13/05) Hi Marge, I'm trying to get some info on Marti's death, how long she was at FL, etc. Bill Monday suggested you might help. I emailed Carolyn Boller but she couldn't remember specifics. I want to put Marti on our FL obit pages. Thanks, -Jake Lamkins (2/14/05) I received your-e-mail regarding Marti Grass. Marti died June 27th 1984 from a brain tumor. Marti was our union leader in reservations when we negotiated our contract in Sept 1970 and brought our salaries up to standard. Marti was 43 years old when she died. Her husbands name was Roger and her son was Randy. Marti had quit Frontier in 1979 and had been with the company 12 years as I recall. Marti was quite the gal. I miss and think of her often. I always admired her, especially when she got ill as she was so brave and fought with so much courage. Jake, Im sure about the day and year she died as I had another friend who died the same day but different year. I hope this helps you. Jake the last Frontier issue I got made me so sad as I read the deceased list. I knew so many of them and couldnt get over how many were so young. It has made me more aware of how precious life is and to try to live each day to the fullest. Many of the Fal employees are aiming for the 20 year reunion in the year 2006. We appreciate you doing the Frontier News and always look forward for the next issue. Thanks -Marge DuBois (2/15/05) Taken from the July 1, 1973 to January 1, 1975 FL ALEA contract.
